BAR and BAT MITZVAH
The tradition of Bar and Bat Mitzvah is one of the most enriching experiences a person will ever have, a celebration into the Jewish adulthood. Along with family, friends and your Temple Sholom family, we cheer as you pass into the “adult” Jewish community.
We believe firmly that Jewish education is a life-long journey and we take the occasion of becoming a Bar and Bat Mitzvah very seriously and celebrate with great joy. Children are taught about the meaning of the Mitzvot (commandments), about social responsibility and about the services. Specific preparation for Torah and Haftorah fluency occurs mostly during the year before the child’s celebration. During the service they lead by chanting parts of the Torah, Haftarah and service. The Sanctuary is alive with support and encouragement, not just from their family and close friends, but from the entire community who join to celebrate.

ADULT B'NAI MITZVAH
There are many reasons why one might not have celebrated a Bar or Bat Mitzvah at age 13 whether it was circumstances or lack of opportunity, we believe at Temple Sholom – it’s never too late to formalize your Jewish adulthood. Some women grew up in synagogues where there wasn't a strong tradition of girls celebrating Bat Mitzvah. Whether you schedule an adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah solo or with a group, you are guaranteed to feel tremendous pride in your accomplishment.
